Off Duty Cop Charged In Fatal 2012 Shooting
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Chicago police officer is facing involuntary manslaughter and other felony offenses in connection with a deadly off-duty shooting of a 22-year-old south suburban woman near a park on Chicago's West Side in March of 2012.
Bond for officer Dante Servin was set at $75,000 at a hearing on Monday.
He is charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless discharge of a firearm and reckless conduct.
Rekia Boyd was fatally shot March 21, 2012 allegedly by Servin, according to a lawsuit filed by Boyd's family last year.
"We feel strongly that in this particular case, Miss Rekia Boyd lost her life for no reason and that this defendant's actions were reckless in shooting in that alleyway," said State's Attorney Anita Alvarez.

"It's a sad day when a Chicago police officer is charged for doing something that he's trained to do when he's defending himself," said Police Union Spokesman Pat Camden.
Boyd and a group were hanging out at Douglas Park when Servin, who lives in the area, allegedly drove by, got in to an apparent shouting match with a man in the group then fired a gun multiple times striking Boyd in the head, the suit alleges.
Boyd, 22, of the 1500 block of South California Avenue, and 39-year-old Antonio Cross were shot by the off-duty detective in the 3100 block of West 15th Place in the North Lawndale neighborhood after the detective saw several people causing a disturbance.
Police say Cross approached the detective with a gun. The detective was asking a group of people to quiet down as they caused a disturbance.
Cross, of the 7100 block of South Ridgeland Avenue, has been charged with misdemeanor assault.
