Off-Duty Chicago Cop Allegedly Knocked Woman's Tooth Out In Assault
HILLSIDE, Ill. (CBS) - A Chicago police officer has been relieved of his police powers after being arrested in west suburban Hillside for allegedly knocking a female security guard's tooth out during a fight.
Donnie Lewis, 57, who is a 15-year veteran of the department, has been placed in an administrative assignment pending the outcome of an internal investigation, which was immediately initiated after an arrest in Hillside, a release from the Chicago police department said.
Lewis is charged with one count each of aggravated battery in a public way and aggravated battery to a private security officer. He was ordered held on $40,000 bond Tuesday afternoon, according to Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 29 and Lewis was ordered to have no contact with the victim and surrender his weapon and his Firearm Owner's ID card, according to Conklin.
Lewis is accused of striking a female security guard in Hillside, causing her to lose a tooth, court records said. The officer was off-duty at the time of the arrest.
The Independent Review Authority is investigating.
