Obama Arrives In Chicago To Attend Two Fundraisers
(CBS) – President Obama was in town Thursday to attend a pair of fundraisers.
The fundraisers will require campaign contributions beginning at $1,000 to attend the first reception with the president, to $10,000 to have your picture taken with Mr. Obama to $35,000 a couple to be among several dozen having dinner with the president at the second event.
Obama was expected to raise about $1 million for the campaigns of U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, and other Senate Democratic hopefuls.
About 100 supporters were expected at the Gold Coat home of Michael Polsky, who ironically, like another Obama supporter, Manny Sanchez, is backing Republican Bruce Rauner for governor.
A handful of protesters were also on hand, part of the group pushing for a trauma center at the University of Chicago, something they feel is needed more than the proposed presidential library.
This is the president's second trip to Chicago in the past six weeks. He's hosted four of his 23 fundraisers in the city this year.
Mesirow Financial Chairman Richard Price was attending Thursday's dinner, after co-chairing an event last month.
Mayor Emanuel and dozens of other politicians and supporters were at the airport to greet President Obama when he arrived.
The president stayed overnight at his Kenwood neighborhood home.
