Oak Park YMCA Brings Back Community Garden
OAK PARK, Ill. (WBBM) -- The YMCA in Oak Park has high hopes for its newly planted garden.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Debra Dale reports, this is the second year for the Edible Urban Garden on the front lawn of the West Cook YMCA, at 255 S. Marion St. in Oak Park.
YMCA board member Geri McLauchlan says the neighborhood children are digging in.
"Healthy dirt creates healthy kids, because it creates healthy food, so the kids are learning about planting and having fun in the dirt," McLauchlan said.

She said the garden will grow more than the vegetables they planted.
"Really building community, because it's a community effort; there's a bunch of volunteers," McLauchlan said.
The proceeds from the harvest will help the Hephzibah Children's Association of Oak Park.
