CHICAGO (CBS) -- A west suburban high school is stepping up security today after a man tried to lure a student into his truck.
Man Tried To Lure Student
It happened as the student was heading to school yesterday in Oak Park.
The girl is a student at Oak Park River Forest High School, where security has been stepped up in the wake of the incident.
About 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, outside the main post office on Lake Street, less than a mile west of the campus.
The man was in his truck when he tried to coax the student into his vehicle several times. When she refused, the suspect eventually gave up and drove east toward Chicago.
He was last seen driving from the scene in a small, older model rusty blue pickup truck, with a blue cover on the back and a green stripe on its side.
The school district is encouraging students to follow its safety guidelines.
Students are advised to always walk in groups or at least with one other person, and they should never approach a vehicle.
The are also being told to walk in open areas and sidewalks instead of less visible areas like alleys.
