Oak Park Man Watches Over Hummingbird That Should've Flown South
OAK PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- A very durable hummingbird from Oak Park still hasn't left for warmer climes, and his host is laying on the hospitality while hoping the bird will still bail out and head south.
As WBBM Newsradio's John Cody reports, museum consultant Eric Gyllenhaal says he has been warming up the nectar for the hummingbird which should have left a month and a half ago.

"It's concentrated enough that it's not going to freeze at 32 degrees like regular water would, but we are putting heating lamps on it, which is kind of the standard thing you do if you've got a hummingbird in wintertime," Gyllenhaal said, "and I also just was talking with a hummingbird expert from Kentucky, where they sometimes have hummingbirds spend the whole winter with them, and he recommended giving it a windbreak of sorts around the feeders."
Gyllenhaal says he is hoping the hummingbird knows what it's doing and will head off south soon.
But meanwhile, he is keeping the heating lamps lit in his Oak Park back yard.
