NW Side Boy, 11, Dies After Being Struck While Riding Bike
CHICAGO (CBS) -- An 11-year-old boy died Monday, five days after he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle a block away from his Northwest Side home.
Christopher Fonseca of the 1900 block of North Lawndale Avenue was riding his bike when a vehicle struck him, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
He was struck at 12:01 p.m. on June 20, and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien said. The driver remained at the scene.
The driver of a 2010 Toyota Corolla was southbound on Ridgeway when he approached an alley and the bike struck the front driver's-side door near the fender, News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said. The driver apparently attempted to avoid the boy.
Christopher was pronounced dead at 2:23 p.m., according to the medical examiner's office.
No charges or citations were filed in connection with the crash, Mirabelli said.
