NW Indiana Home Being Converted Into Halfway House Burglarized

(CBS) -- A thief breaks into a halfway house being renovated in Northwest Indiana and steals thousands of dollars' worth of items.

The house was purchased by Roger Hayward, who founded the non-profit called Gary's Time. Hayward was renovating the home so he could help ex-cons get back on their feet.

When he came to work on the house Tuesday, everything was gone including two furnaces, brand-new kitchen cabinets and tools. His message to whoever did this is surprising.

"I am not angry at this guy," Hayward said. "If you are out there and you see this, come and see me. I can help you."

"Roger…is over here every single day and then to see all of his work up to this point was gone I was angry for him."

Hayward says he's self-funded. If you'd like to help, he has set up a gofundme page.
