NW Ind. Mother Thinks Remains Found In Hammond Could Be Her Daughter's
HAMMOND, Ind. (CBS) -- It could be a break that ends a 15-year mystery for a Northwest Indiana mother.
She thinks bones found on a Hammond, Ind. lot could be her daughter's.
Delores Starnes' 42-year-old daughter, Doreen Fogle, disappeared 15 years ago. Her family has wondered what happened to her. Now they think they might have an answer.
"The closure is what you want," Fogle's niece, Natasha Starnes, told CBS 2's Kristyn Hartman.
Earlier this week, a dog named Brutus dug up bones on an empty lot. One of the bones had a ring on it.
With further investigation, the dog owner found a skull and called police.
Friday, a forensic anthropologist was on site with officers. Police Chief Brian Miller said the remains likely are female because of the size of the ring that was found.
Natasha Starnes said her aunt loved jewelry.
"If I have to stand here for a month I probably would ... until they find out for sure," Delores Starnes said.
