Co-Workers Mourn Nurse Killed By Drunken Driver
OAK LAWN, Ill. (CBS) -- Nurses and doctors at Advocate Christ Medical Center are mourning one of their own.
Heidi Roseen of Lockport, a well-respected nurse who worked at the hospital for more than 30 years, died after a car she was driving was hit by a drunken driver over the weekend.
CBS 2's Dorothy Tucker reports she was pronounced dead at the very hospital where she worked.
Monday was painful for the nurses, doctors and staff who worked with, knew, loved and respected Roseen, a mother of three, grandmother of two, and wife of 30 years to Thomas Roseen.
In a telephone interview, Mr. Roseen said he'd miss his wife's companionship. He called her "a good Christian, a good cook and a loving grandmother who liked to water-ski."
Co-workers also will miss her.
"She was a very spiritual woman, and she actually brought the power of prayer to the bedside. She would sit with the bible and pray with her patients," Lynn Hennessy says.
Roseen was on her way to work when she was killed Sunday morning. The accident happened at the corner of 95th and LaGrange. The driver who ran a red light and collided with Roseen's vehicle confessed that he'd been drinking.
The driver has been identified as 25-year-old Matthew Senica. According to Cook County police, he has a record that includes charges of drugs and battery that date back to 2003. He's been charged with a felony aggravated DUI in the death of Roseen.
Senica was not seriously hurt in the accident. Police say he only suffered a few bruises.
He's due in court Tuesday morning.
