2 in custody after man found tied up and killed in basement of Chicago home
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were in custody after a man was found tied up and murdered in the basement of his Norwood Park home over the weekend.
Bound with duct tape and an extension cord, 63-year-old George Levin had been badly assaulted and left for dead when he was discovered by his sister in the basement apartment of their home late Sunday night in the 7600 block of West Talcott Avenue.
Levin was taken to Ascension Resurrection hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined he died of multiple injuries suffered in an assault, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.
Some of Levin's belongings were missing, and according to a police report, investigators were able to track one of the suspects – a 21-year-old from Venezuela – via the license plate of a car seen leaving the scene.
Area 5 detectives were conducting a homicide investigation, and Thursday morning police said detectives were questioning two people of interest.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office said this is an active and ongoing investigation, and they had no updates to provide as of Thursday afternoon.
