Northwest Suburban Man Hit By Ice Cream Truck, Critically Injured
CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (STMW) -- A northwest suburban man is in critical condition after he was hit by an ice cream truck while crossing a highway Monday night in Crystal Lake.
The 42-year-old man was crossing Route 14 when he was hit by an ice cream peddler truck driving east near Linn Avenue about 7:55 p.m., according to a release from Crystal Lake police.
Jose Mundo-Gonzalez, of Crystal Lake, was initially taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry with life-threatening injures, police said. He was taken by helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition.
Mondo-Gonzalez was not in a crosswalk when he was hit, police said.
Route 14 was closed for about two hours as crews investigated and cleared the wreck from the highway, police said.
No charges have been filed as of Tuesday afternoon. Crystal Lake police are investigating.
