Northwest suburban Chicago animal feed factory to move after odor complaints
MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. (CBS) -- An animal feed factory is leaving northwest suburban Mount Prospect, after residents complained it was the source of a foul smell.
Prestige Feed Products makes food for pets, and for livestock such as pigs and cows. People living nearby complained about odors they said came from the plant—sparking protests and a legal battle.
In court last week, Prestige's attorneys said the company plans to move within the next six months.
Mount Prospect Village Manager Cassady wrote that the factory relocating would moot most, if not all, of the claims in the lawsuit.
But if the matter is not resolved, a jury trial for the village's suit against the company would begin in September of next year.
Published reports indicated that residents of both Mount Prospect and Des Plaines have complained about the odor from the factory, and compared it to "burnt cheese."
There was no word late Monday on where Prestige Feed Products was moving.
