Northwest Indiana Residents Call Authorities About Horses They Say Are Neglected
(CBS) – There are questions about who owns horribly malnourished and mangy horses in northwest Indiana.
CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports.
A lone horse left to survive in a cinder block shell of a home ripped apart.
Katie Cross and Sandra Pena saw the horse from the road on the outskirts of Gary, and knew they had to step in to check on the animal's health.
"I feel his ribs," Cross says.
They say they've seen more horses bearing apparent wounds of neglect at 28th and Wright over the last three weeks.
Residents say they've notified Lake County officials about the piles of frozen mud and horse manure and of course the condition of some of the animals they've seen out here. The Indiana Department of Health is looking into the case.
An animal rescue organization found out about the case and has been leaving food for the animals.
