ISP Trooper Hospitalized After I-55 Crash Near Plainfield
CHICAGO (CBS)-- The northbound lanes on Interstate 55 near Plainfield were closed for several hours on Monday, after a crash that is blocking traffic.
Illinois State Police said the crash happened in the northbound lanes of I-55 near U.S. Route 30 where a car smashed a state trooper's squad car.
All northbound lanes of I-55 were closed at Route 30 for several hours, police said.
According to ISP, a trooper responded to a traffic crash in the area. The Trooper pulled behind the wrecked vehicles in the left lane and had the emergency lights activated in order to assist with directing traffic to the right.
Around 11:46 Monday morning, the trooper was in his squad car when a 2010 black Cadillac crashed into the rear of the trooper's vehicle injuring the trooper. The law enforcement official was airlifted to a local area hospital with serious injuries.
Police said the driver of the Cadillac, 20-year-old Angel M. Casillas from Joliet, was also transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
ISP said it's the sixth ISP Scott's Law related crash year-to-date in 2021 and the second in two days.
