North Shore District 112 Teachers Set Strike Date
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Teachers in North Shore District 112 have set a strike date of Oct. 16 as both sides have so far failed to reach an agreement.
The North Shore Education Association says the board and union were at the bargaining table with a federal mediator for five hours, ending at 9 p.m. Thursday.
The union said in a statement that it had made significant movement in their last offer, but accused the board of not reciprocating.

A spokeswoman for the board says they have made concessions on salaries, compensation for continuing education and insurance for part-time teachers.
Another bargaining date has been set for Oct. 10.
The district covers 12 elementary and middle schools in Highland Park.
Earlier in the afternoon, teachers held a rally at district headquarters in Highland Park today to show solidarity.
Teachers on Sept. 28, filed a 10-day notice of intent to strike with the Illinois Educational Labor Relations Board.
"We are disappointed with the tone that the union leadership has taken in discussing the negotiations," said School Board President Bruce Hyman. "They have called our offer ridiculous and meager, they have maintained that we are unwilling to compromise, and they have questioned our integrity and our intentions."
Hyman said the school board's goal is to arrive at a settlement within the district's means, largely determined by property tax caps.
