Nolan Ryan: I'm Happy For Robin
(CBS) Who could forget the infamous Nolan Ryan-Robin Ventura brawl?
After getting beamed by one of Ryan's fastballs, Ventura charged the mound before the then 46-year-old Ryan put him in a headlock and gave the youngster a few good shots to the head. Since that day in 1993, the fight has become one of the most talked-about brawls in the history of Major League Baseball
And as fate would have it, the White Sox will open up the era of Ventura at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington to kick off the 2012 season.
Eighteen years later, Ryan -- the current president and CEO of the Rangers -- has put the fight behind him.
"I'm really happy for Robin, that he's getting that opportunity," Ryan said after the postponement of Game 2 of the ALCS. "It should be with the White Sox. I think he's the type of person that you want to see in that position, because I think he's good for baseball, and he knows the game.
"You know, I'm truly surprised (people still talk about the fight). "I'm surprised that this thing has had the life that it's had."
