No More Time Behind Bars For Rezko In Fraud Case
CHICAGO (AP) -- A federal judge in Chicago has sentenced Tony Rezko to 7 1/2 years in prison for a fraud conviction, but will allow him to serve it at the same time as his longer sentence in a separate case.
Under the sentence handed down Thursday, the former fundraiser for ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich agreed to waive his right to appeal his convictions.
Rezko pleaded guilty last year to running a fraud scheme that netted more than $13 million in business loans. Authorities say Rezko tried to defraud lender GE Capital by appearing to sell his restaurants to employees.
Rezko is already serving a 10 1/2-year sentence, minus time served, for plotting to squeeze more than $7 million from companies that wanted to do state business.
