No Leads On Musician's 2007 Disappearance

CHICAGO (WBBM/CBS) -- Four years ago this week, a musician called "Chicago Johnny" disappeared in the western suburbs, and his sister says investigators are not doing nearly enough to find her brother.

As WBBM Newsradio 780's Steve Miller reports, John Spira, 45, was last seen on Feb. 23, 2007. He was headed to Oak Brook and never made it, but his truck was still at the West Chicago cable company he owned, Universal Cable.

Since then, his sister, Stephanie McNeil, has maintained a Web site and a blog devoted to her brother and finding out what happened. Lately, her focus has been on those she believes to be responsible to justice.

McNeil says the DuPage County sheriff's office has not handled the case well.

"I don't think they're handling things at all right now," McNeil said. "My biggest frustration is the fact that they're still calling this a missing persons case four years later."

McNeil believes her brother was murdered.

At the time of his disappearance, Spira's cell phone remained active for several hours after had last been seen. It was later pinpointed a to a wooded area between two cell phone towers, but a search of the area didn't turn up anything.

Seven months later, fire destroyed Spira's cable business.

Spira played area blues clubs with the Rabble Rousers band. He was a well-known guitarist.

Newsradio 780 has asked the DuPage County Sheriff's office for reaction.
