(CBS) Hours after winning his second consecutive MAC Championship, NIU head football coach Dave Doeren has accepted a head coaching position with North Carolina State.
NIU confirmed the move to CBSChicago.com's Adam Hoge.
The 40-year-old Doeren was named the Huskies head coach before the 2011 season and compiled a record of 23-4 in his first two seasons, including a win at the GoDaddy.com Bowl last season.
Doeren reportedly had interest from both Illinois and Purdue, but elected to join North Carolina State.
