NIU's Butler Upgraded To 'Serious' Condition
NIU linebacker Devon Butler has been been upgraded from "critical" to "serious condition, according to officials at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
He was the victim of an off-campus shooting on Wednesday.
Butler was transported to the medical center shortly after the shooting and has been surrounded by a constant Huskie presence. Recently hired head coach Dave Doeren, linebackers coach Tom Matukewicz and Associate Vice-President and Director of Athletics Jeff Compher have all been at the hospital with him.
Butler's family arrived on Wednesday afternoon and has been with him ever since.
NIU will resume their spring practices on Saturday (4/9) with a non-contact session. The program postponed last Thursday's practice, and will make it up on Sunday (4/10).
