NIU Huskies Tamed By Temple
(WSCR) - Northern Illinois Huskies seemed to have no chance facing Temple, which won its fifth straight. Xavier Silas led NIU with 27 points, but it wasn't enough and the Huskies lost by ten points.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) Lavoy Allen scored 22 points and Ramone Moore had 21 points and six assists to lead Temple to an 84-74 win over Northern Illinois on Saturday.
The Owls (8-2) never trailed in the contest, taking a 64-48 lead - their largest of the game - on Moore's tip-in with 8:26 left in the second half. Scottie Randall finished with 12 points, while Michael Eric had eight points and 12 rebounds.
Xavier Silas' layup cut Temple's lead to 73-65 with 2:01 left to play. But the Huskies (3-5) never got closer the rest away as Moore answered with two free throws to help the Owls pull away.
Silas led Northern Illinois with 27 points, six rebounds and five assists. Jeremy Landers had 12 points and Tony Nixon added 10.
Temple, which won its fifth straight, shot 53.4 percent (31 for 58) from the floor. The Owls held Northern Illinois to 40.6 percent (26 of 64).
