Nine Wounded In Shootings Since Friday Night
CHICAGO (STMW) - At least nine people were hurt in shootings across the city late Friday into early Saturday.
The weekend's first shooting happened about 10:42 p.m. in the 700 block of West Scott Street on the Near North Side, police said. A 24-year-old man suffered a graze wound to the chest and arm, police said. He was treated and released from Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
In the Far South Side Roseland, a woman outside in the 10100 block of South Perry Avenue heard gunfire and realized she was shot at 12:58 a.m., police said. Bullets grazed her head and arm, and she refused medical attention.
About 1:40 a.m., a 26-year-old man was critically wounded in a shooting in the 900 block of West 19th Street, police said. He was shot multiple times in the back and was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County.
Five minutes later, a 22-year-old man was shot while sitting in a vehicle in the 4800 block of South Seeley Avenue, police said. More than one suspect approached and began to fire shots into the vehicle, but the man escaped with only a graze wound to the head and was taken to Holy Cross Hospital in good condition.
About 2 a.m., a person was shot in the 1100 block of South Sacramento Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said, though police had no immediate information on details surrounding that shooting.
At 3:17 a.m., a man in his 20s was shot in the 3100 block of South Keeler Avenue in the Southwest Side Little Village neighborhood.
Roughly ten minutes later, two people were hurt in a drive-by attack in the South Side Washington Heights neighborhood, in the 9600 block of South Peoria Street. They were sitting on the porch when someone in a passing light-colored vehicle opened fire.
A 29-year-old man was taken in good condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for a graze wound to the side, police said. A bullet also grazed a 27-year-old man but he refused medical attention.
The most recent shooting happened about 4:48 a.m. in the Northwest Side Avondale neighborhood, police said. A shooter in a gangway in the 3400 block of West Belmont Avenue opened fire at a 25-year-old man, hitting him in the groin. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in serious condition.
No one is in custody for any of the attacks Saturday morning. Area detectives are investigating.
