Nine Injured In CTA Bus Crash On Near West Side
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Nine people were hurt when a van went through a red light and struck a CTA bus Tuesday afternoon on the Near West Side.
The crash happened at South Ashland Avenue and West Madison Street at 1:45 p.m when a No. 20 Madison bus was heading west through the intersection and was struck by a van going through a red light, according to CTA spokesperson Catherine Hosinki.
The driver of the van attempted to stop, but there may have been a mechanical issue with the van's brakes, Hosinki said.
Nine people from the bus were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injures, and three declined treatment, Hosinki said.
It was not immediately known if the driver of the van was injured.
Chicago Police could not immediately provide information on the crash.
