Niles Village Employee Robbed, Stabbed
NILES, Ill. (CBS) -- A Niles village employee was robbed and stabbed Tuesday morning as he drove to a bank in the northern suburb.
The 53-year-old employee was on his way to PNC Bank-Golf Mill, 9101 N. Greenwood Ave., around 9:30 a.m. to deposit village funds at the time of the incident, according to Niles police Sgt. Robert Tornabene. The employee was pepper-sprayed, robbed and stabbed while in his car near Golf Mill Park, at Grace Avenue and Davis Street, police said.
He was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where his condition was stable as of 11:30 a.m.
The robbery occurred while the employee was inside his village vehicle which was stopped at a stop sign on westbound Davis Street at Grace, Tornabene said. Multiple suspects are believed to have been involved. No one was in custody.
"They used some kind of ruse to approach him and to get him to roll down the window and talk to him," Tornabene said.
The employee reported the incident on his village radio. The employee's vehicle was towed away from the scene, which was cordoned off by yellow crime scene tape, about 10:30 a.m.
