Niles Company Fined For Citizens-Only Job Ads
NILES, Ill. (CBS) -- The U.S. Department of Justice has resolved a discrimination claim against a Niles-based company.
As WBBM Newsradio's Terry Keshner reports, MicroLink Devices was accused of posting online job notices with citizenship requirements, which violates the anti-discrimination provision of the Immigration and Nationality Act.
Federal investigators say companies generally cannot discriminate on the basis of citizenship status.
Such discrimination could illegally exclude lawful permanent residents, refugees or individuals given asylum in the United States.
MicroLink, which makes wireless communication materials and advanced solar cells, must pay $12,000 in penalties. The company has also agreed to revise its procedures for recruiting and hiring.
