Nickname Leads Police To Suspect In Beating
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two men who allegedly beat a man in the head with a baseball bat have been charged with trying to kill him after the Sunday attack on the West Side, police said.
Maurice Jefferson, 28, and Deautry Thompson, 27, were charged with one count each of attempted murder, aggravated battery and home invasion, police said.
Police responded to 4428 W. Jackson Blvd. Sunday and spoke with a witness who told officers that a person he knows as "Juicy," allegedly hit the male victim in the head with a baseball bat after an argument, according to a police report. While he was on the floor, other suspects battered him.
The suspects fled in a silver van that went northbound on Kilbourn Avenue from Jackson Boulevard, the report said. The victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with severe trauma to the head.
Police learned "Juicy's'' real name and address while at the hospital when they spoke to the victim's girlfriend, who said Jefferson is her ex-boyfriend, according to the report.
Jefferson, of the 5500 block of West Washington Boulevard, and Thompson, of the 700 block of North Homan Avenue, were scheduled to appear in bond court later Wednesday.
