NFL Considering 42-Yard Extra Points

(CBS) The NFL is considering moving extra-point attempts from the two-yard back to the 25-yard line, which would make the tries 42- or 43-yard attempts, according to an NFL.com report.

The NFL Competition Committee has had preliminary talks about experimenting with the idea in the preseason this coming season, NFL.com reported. Last season, kickers successfully converted all but five of 1,267 extra-point tries, a conversion rate of 99.6 percent. That led commissioner Roger Goodell to suggest its demise could be coming.

The success rate on field goals between 40 and 49 yards last year was 83, according to NFL.com.
