Newspaper Vendor Hit By Car On Chinatown Feeder Ramp
UPDATED 09/07/11 7:09 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A newspaper vendor was hit by a car on the Chinatown feeder ramp from the Dan Ryan Expressway Wednesday morning.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the vendor was standing in traffic selling newspapers to passing drivers when he was hit by the car shortly before the traffic signal at Cermak Road.
The vendor suffered a broken leg, and was alert and conscious as he was taken away in a Fire Department ambulance, Habermehl reported.
The Fire Department told the Sun-Times Media Wire the vendor was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious to critical condition.
Newspapers were seen strewn all over the pavement.
The Chinatown feeder ramp, located directly east of the Chinatown business district on Wentworth Avenue, was tied up with emergency response vehicles and Illinois Department of Transportation crews attending to the scene as of just after 6 a.m.
This comes in addition to heavier-than-normal traffic on the Dan Ryan, Habermehl reports.
