Newest Bears Receiver, Fantuz 'Excited For Opportunity'

It's unsure if there will be a traditional free agency period for the NFL or if there will even be a 2011 season. And despite that, last week the Chicago Bears signed Andy Fantuz from the Canadian Football League.

Including the postseason, Fantuz played 85 games over the course of five seasons for the Saskatchewan Roughriders. In those 85 games Fantuz recorded 314 catches for 4,724 yards and 27 touchdowns. His biggest season came in 2010 when he had 87 catches for 1,380 yards and six touchdowns.

"It just seemed liek a good fit for me," Fantuz said on the Mully and Hanley Show whan asked why he chose the Bears. "I have a lot of respect for the organization, the franchise, all the tradition behind the team and the fanbase is, you know, something that I want to be a part of."

Fantuz is listed at 6'4'' and 221 pounds, and he's considered to be more of a possession receiver when he makes the transition to the NFL. He'll have to earn a spot of the Bears roster if he wants to prove that he can make the jump from the CFL to the NFL.

"Chicago just seemed like a great fit," Fantuz said. "When I came to work out for them, you know, everybody seemed really nice and it kind of felt like home and just felt like some place I could belong. I'm excited for the opportunity to try and make the team."

Notes: CFL plays an 18-game regular season, the same length that the NFL owners are pushing for and the NFL Players Association is fighting.
