Newborn Triplets Go Home For The Holidays After Parents Hit 'Baby Lottery'
Santiago Family Grows By Three
(STMW) -- A west suburban couple has received the best Christmas present ever Thursday: They were able to bring home their new triplets.
Finn, Kyle and Ava Santiago quietly slept in little red Santa caps as their parents answered reporters' questions before leaving Loyola University Medical Center at around noon.
Heather Santiago says she and husband, Brandon, were shocked to find out they were pregnant with multiples but feel that they hit "the baby lottery."
Brandon says thanks to donations from friends and co-workers at the Villa Park Fire Department, they have 13,000 diapers waiting in their garage in Berkeley.
Also at home are three bassinets, three cribs, a new minivan, four swings and two bottle warmers.
The couple already has a son, Liam, 3 ½, who hasn't met his siblings yet.
"Now, we're the Santiago Six," says dad Brandon.
The triplets were born Dec. 6 at 34 weeks, which is better than the average time for triplets.
Dr. Jonathan Muraskas is a neo-natologist at Loyola and an identical twin himself. He says he expects the two boys and one girl to be completely healthy.
Finn came first, weighing 4 pounds, 2 ounces; then Kyle at 4 pounds, 14 ounces; and Ava at 3 pounds, 14 ounces.
