New Store Opens On Site Of Lane Bryant Shooting In Tinley Park
TINLEY PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- For the first time since five women were killed at the Lane Bryant in Tinley Park, a retail store will open for business tomorrow morning - on the same site.
T.J. Maxx is opening in the same space that was was the Lane Bryant store.
Tinley Park Mayor Ed Zabrocki says it's bittersweet.
"A bitter thing in the sense that it represents a tragedy that occurred five and a half years ago, and it's a stain on our community.
"The other side of the coin is, we're glad that it's a store coming into Tinley Park from another location within Tinley - and the space is being used for retail."
Zabrocki says the building originally had been used by several stores, including Lane Bryant. And now T.J. Maxx is taking over the entire space.
TJ Grady was a cop when the shooting occured. He is now a village trustee.
"It was hard to deal with. Asmall community, hometown feeling and then to have this tragedy take place. It was very tough on a lot of people"
