The bridge was dedicated Wednesday.
It is more than just a new location to cross the Fox River. The Stearns Road Bridge Corridor is the largest infrastructure project in Kane County, more than two decades in the making.
Former U.S. House Speaker Dennis Hastert pushed for the project in a big way starting in 1990. Hastert says he spent nearly a third of his life fighting for the Stearns Road Bridge Corridor. He says it's one of three Fox River crossings he worked to complete, links vital to the Fox Valley.
Kane County Board President Karen McConnaughay says the project is about more than transportation: It preserves the environment, and means business as it is expected to bring more commerce and development to the area.
Officials estimate the project will generate more than $5,000 jobs for the region.
