New Salad Bar Comes To Wheaton Middle School
WHEATON, Ill. (WBBM) -- You'd never think middle school kids would get psyched about vegetables, but at a school in Wheaton, the students are excited about the new salad bar.
Principal David Bendis says a student group called the Chow Hounds did a survey last year, and found out that fellow students wanted to include a salad bar on their lunchtime menus at Franklin Middle School, at 211 E. Franklin St. in Wheaton.

The salad bar equipment was provided through a grant of $3,000 from the Great American Salad Bar Project.
"The kids are excited about getting the salad bar," Bendis said. "The student group has put posters up around the school. We've been doing announcements and there's a great buzz in our community too.
Bendis says if students eat healthy at school, the 2nd half of their day should be better for them.
He says there is a correlation between eating right and being fit and performing better in school.
