New Policy Allows I-Pass Users To Block Tracking System
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- If you have been worried about your I-Pass tracking your every move, a policy change could put your mind at ease.
The Illinois Toll Highway Authority has announced a new safeguard policy to protect a person's right not to be tracked while driving.
The date, time and direction of travel will be kept private.
The policy was the result of state legislation that was signed by Gov. Pat Quinn last August.
"The new law is a great protection for I-PASS customers," state Rep. Kelly Burke (D-Oak Lawn), a sponsor of the legislation, said in a news release. "Drivers can be assured that their personal information, such as the dates, times and places where they travel on the Tollway system, will be kept private."
The policy has been in effect now for five days.
