New Metra Seats May Have Cup Holders!

By John Dodge

CHICAGO (CBS) -- In perhaps one of the greatest advances in modern commuter rail road history, Metra officials today said that new seats on its trains could have cup holders.

Built-in cup holders!

As any rail commuter will tell you, trying to juggle your beverage with your bags is a huge hassle. (Seriously, it is.)

At this point, the new seat design is in the proposal stage.

The proposed seats would be more comfortable that current seats, with higher backs, according to a Metra document by the Citizens Advisory Board, provided to CBS 2.

With cup holders, CBS 2 has learned!

The plan would be to have seats that could be installed on both existing train cars and newly rebuilt ones, too.

The plan would also call for seats that don't flip like current versions do.

The color would also be customized and not necessarily the colors shown in the photos.

Whatever Metra decides, we have two words: Cup holders.
