New Lawyer Files Motion For New Trial For Drew Peterson
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Naperville lawyer has filed a motion for a new trial for Drew Peterson.
John Carroll says the former Bolingbrook police sergeant didn't get adequate legal representation.
Carroll said that's why he, and not lead Peterson defense attorney Joel Brodsky, filed the motion.
"How can Mr. Peterson advance this theory that he had ineffective assistance of counsel and have Mr. Brodsky present that argument?" Carroll told the Joliet Herald-News.
"You have to have somebody not involved in the case."
Brodsky tells Newsradio the basis for the motion is "pure fantasy."
Brodsky says Peterson never authorized Carroll to file the action.
Peterson was convicted last month for the 2004 murder of his third wife, Kathleen Savio.
