New Fee Proposed For Chicago Airport Car Rentals
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The cost of renting a car at O'Hare and Midway international airports may be going up again.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bob Conway reports, Ald. Michael R. Zalewski (23rd) wants to add an 11 percent fee to car rental charges so that rental companies can recoup the money they pay the city for the right to do business at the airports, according to a Chicago Sun-Times report.

The proposal calls for 10 percent of the new revenues to go to the rental companies, and for the rest to help the city to pay for different airport projects, the Sun-Times reported.
Zalewski emphasized to the Sun-Times that Chicago residents won't even be affected by the new fee, since it is out-of-towners who generally rent cars at airports.
A spokesman for the Hertz rental car company tells the Sun-Times that such concession fees are commonplace at airports in other cities, and implementing such a fee is simply bringing O'Hare and Midway in line with the other airports.
Just last year, the city imposed higher airport rental charges to help pay for a facility to consolidate airport rental car companies into one central location.
