Neighborhoods On Alert After Sex Assaults
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two neighborhoods are on alert his morning as Chicago police investigate two separate sexual assaults.
Both happened last Sunday one in Austin and the other in Lakeview.
In Lakeview, the 27-year-old woman was attacked while walking on a dead-end street around 2:30 a.m.
The victim told police she was tackled from behind and dragged into an apartment vestibule and assaulted.
A friend of the victim ran out of the building and scared away the suspect. The attack happened on West Fletcher, a few hundred feet behind Burley Elementary School.
Investigators describe the suspect as a 30- to 35-year-old man, with a thin build and a pony tail. He was wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans.
In Austin, a woman was walking south in the 2300 block of North Nordica about 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 14 when she saw a man walking across the street from her, according to a police alert.
He then ran up behind her, struck her in the face with his fist and sexually assaulted her, police said.
The man then ran south on Nordica, police said.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-tall, 150 to 160-pound white man between 30 and 40 years old with short red hair, a mustache and goatee, police said. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt with a Bulls championship logo and ripped blue jeans.
He smelled of alcohol and cigarettes, police said.
