Neighbor Of Rape Suspect Says More Victims Are Likely
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS (CBS) -- A man in the northwest suburbs is accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year old-girl, and police fear there may be more victims.
Brittany Wallace, a neighbor of the teen, says that is likely. She says more than 10 young girls were associated with the accused, 44-year-old Carl Salters.
"I wanted him gone a long time ago," Wallace told CBS 2's Pamela Jones. "Everyone knows about him. He's a drug dealer."
Salters is charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse and criminal sexual assault and is accused of raping the 15-year-old victim several times. In an interview with CBS 2, the young woman said she visited Salters back in July to get marijuana and alcohol. At least four times, police said, she was sexually assaulted.
On Sunday, the 15-year-old victim says Salters attacked her outside while she was with a friend. She says she refused to leave with him, and he lashed out -- choking her.
The 21-year-old Wallace, a neighbor and friend of the victim, said she knows Salters all too well.
"I've been over a year sober now," she said. "I used to do pot with him. I used to drink with him."
Now, Cook County sheriff's police say Salter may have assaulted additional young women in the unincorporated Arlington Heights neighborhood. They want the victims to share their stories.
The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information about his involvement with children to call (708) 865-4896.
Salters, who was on probation, is being held on $200,000 bond.
