NBC 5 Sportscaster Daryl Hawks Found Dead In Atlanta Hotel Room
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A sports broadcaster for NBC 5 in Chicago, on assignment for tonight's NBA playoff game between the Chicago Bulls and Atlanta Hawks, was found dead in a hotel room in Atlanta on Thursday.
The body of Daryl Hawks was discovered around 9:30 a.m. Hotel employees went to his room after he missed the Bulls' morning shooting practice, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
NBC 5 News Vice President Frank Whittaker informed the newsroom of Hawk's death this morning. The circumstances surrounding his death are not yet known, but sources said there were no apparent signs of foul play.
Hawks, 38, joined NBC in Chicago in July 2008 as a sports anchor and reporter. He was a three-time Emmy nominee, according to his bio on nbcchicago.com. According to the website, Hawks was married with three children.
In 2002, NBC 5 sports reporter Darrian Chapman died of a heart condition at the age of 37.
