NBA, Union To Meet Wednesday Without Top Negotiators
NEW YORK (AP) -- A person with knowledge of the plans says staffs from the NBA and players' association will meet Wednesday, without top negotiators from either side.
The two sides will gather without Commissioner David Stern, union executive director Billy Hunter or president Derek Fisher, and the hope is that if the meeting goes well, the leadership would rejoin the talks later in the week.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because the meeting details are supposed to remain confidential.
Following negotiations last Tuesday, players and owners remained far apart over the salary cap structure. With training camps originally scheduled to start Oct. 3, the league is running out of time to get a labor deal done and start the season as planned.
