Naval Base Prisoners Moving To Woodstock
WOODSTOCK, Ill. (STMW) - The McHenry County Sheriff's office is hoping to generate $83,000 in revenue by housing prisoners from the Great Lakes Naval Brig at the county jail.
The program has the potential to generate an additional $83,000 in revenue for the county, with a cost to the Navy of $85 per day per prisoner, according to a sheriff's office release.
The revenue will reduce the burden on McHenry County citizens for the operational costs of the sheriff's office, according to the release. The Navy initiated contact with the sheriff's office after closing its brig earlier this year.
The program is expected to house a small number of military prisoners, who generally are low risk and charged with non-violent activity in the correctional, at the McHenry County Correctional Facility at 2200 N. Seminary Ave. in Woodstock, according the release.
Navy personnel will be responsible for transports of prisoners to and from the jail.
