NATO Dignitaries Come Out For Kite Festival
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The signs of the NATO Summit in Chicago aren't limited to the fighter planes that roared over Chicago on Friday.
As CBS 2's Vince Gerasole reports, NATO was also the theme for the city's annual Kite Festival Saturday in the park of Lincoln Park near Montrose Harbor. Participants were given a packet about NATO as they arrived.
Also, all the children at the festival were given packets with facts about the NATO countries.
Several NATO host committee dignitaries visited the festival, and kids of all ages were enjoying it.
"It's a great event every year, no matter who shows up," said kite enthusiastic John Graning.
Pint-sized kite enthusiast Peter Graning estimated the number of kites at the festival as "maybe a dozen or a million."
Mayor Rahm Emanuel also attended the festival.
The Kite Festival has been held for the past 14 years.
