Naperville Teen Killed In Freak Accident
NAPERVILLE, Ill. (CBS) - A bizarre camping accident has claimed the life of a Naperville teen.
Kyle Zuleg, a 16-year-old junior Nequa Valley High School, was struck by a falling tree branch this weekend, CBS 2's Mai Martinez reports.
Family and friends say Kyle was airlifted to Loyola Medical Center from Silver Cross Hospital after Saturday's fatal accident. His family kept him alive on life support so that his organs could be donated, but he was pronounced dead around 10 a.m. Monday.
Kyle was well liked by his classmates and teachers. According to family friends, the accident happened while Kyle was on an annual camping trip with his father and a few other families this weekend in Will County.
Around 8 p.m. Saturday night, several adults and children in the group were playing flashlight tag when a tree branch fell and struck Kyle and another child.
Kyle was critically injured. The other child survived. At Kyle's high school Monday, the news was almost too much for some to process.
It's been hard," Lisa Traut, Kyle's media teacher, said. "Him not being there, that's what's was difficult -- seeing that empty chair."
Traut says Kyle loved sports, and talked about becoming a sports reporter someday. He also played volleyball for Nequa High School.
Kyle's funeral and wake will be held later this week at St. Raphael Church in Naperville.
