Multiple Crashes Tie Up Stevenson
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A jackknifed semi caused a diesel fuel spill Monday morning on the inbound Stevenson Expressway that shut down all four lanes.
About 6:45 a.m., a semi is suspected to have skidded on some black ice on the inbound Stevenson Exrpessway (I-55) near Damen Avenue, according to Illinois State Police. Two other collisions were reported in the vicinity of the crash involving the semi, including an incident where a car apparently went into a wall.
No injuries were reported in those crashes, according to state police. Emergency crews remained on the scene to clean up the spill and put salt on the black ice.
All lanes of the inbound Stevenson remained closed as of 7:40 a.m., state police said.
Less than three miles to the east on the inbound Stevenson, another crash involving an injury has also been reported, state police said.
All the crashes occurred between 6:45 and 7 a.m. Monday, according to state police. Further details about the crashes were not immediately available.
