Mully: Smith Holds Power In Shuffle

If you closed your eyes and listened to Ted Phillips and George McCaskey talk about Jerry Angelo on Tuesday afternoon you might think you were at a retirement party listening to toasts for a beloved company man.
"A wonderful man," as Phillips put it. "High character … tireless worker … put his life's blood into the Bears."
McCaskey called Angelo "the epitome of class" and thanked him on behalf of the whole family.
Sadly, there was no silver watch, no crystal paperweight, not a gag gift or funny T-shirt. Angelo didn't retire. He didn't go out on his own terms. He was denied that chance.
