Mullin On Forte's Contract: Neither Party Wrong

(WSCR) With cries for a new contract for Matt Forte at full force, one Bears expert doesn't think either party is at fault.

"I think it's one of those odd situations where both sides are right," John Mullin of Comcast Sportsnet told The McNeil and Spiegel Show. "I don't think Forte and his agent are at all unreasonable asking for a big contract. The Bears are sitting there with an ace of trump in the form of a franchise tag as a ploy or situation. Are they supposed to give that up? ... It's just simply a disagreement on how much the guy is worth."

Mullin cautioned, however, that the Bears already did make Forte a contract offer of roughly $13-14 million guaranteed.

"I have a tough time coming down hard on the Bears," Mullin said. "It's not like they're saying, 'Sorry, kid. You're gonna get $2 million a year and like it.' There's none of that. They're simply trying to do what was right or what was fair. ... If you're sitting there with the ace of trump, you're allowed to use it."
