Move To Eliminate Oak Lawn Village Manager Withdrawn
OAK LAWN, Ill. (CBS) -- Oak Lawn voters who want to change the way government does business in the south suburbs will have to wait.
As WBBM Newsradio 780's Julie Mann reports, a group calling itself Oak Lawn Tax Watch attempted to put a question on the April 5 election ballot that would have asked voters if the village should do away with the office of village manager, and the position's day-to-day control of village operations.

However, four trustees and village clerk Jane Quinlan protested and took the ballot question to court, claiming supporters of the measure had forged most of the signatures on petitions necessary to put the question on the ballot.
Trustees Bob Streit and Tom Duhig alleged that more than 1,000 of the 1,285 signatures were forged, the SouthtownStar reported.
More than 100 residents signed affidavits saying they did not sign the petitions. One of the affidavits was by a man whose wife's signature appeared even though she died in October, the SouthtownStar reported.
The newspaper reports the chairwoman of the Oak Lawn Tax Watch group, Myrna Jurcev, withdrew the petitions for the ballot question during a brief hearing in Cook County Circuit Court, admitting some mistakes had been made.
