Mount Prospect Building Evacuated Out Of Fear Of Collapse
MT. PROSPECT, Ill. (CBS) -- A building housing a carpet outlet and an electronics store was evacuated in northwest suburban Mount Prospect, amid fear that the roof would collapse.
Employees of the Tri-State Electronic store at 200 W. Northwest Hwy. feared that the truss roof was going to give way, and Police Officer Greg Sill said they called 911 and got out.
Employees of the carpet store that shares the building also cleared out quickly, all without injury.
Police blocked off the two lanes of Northwest Highway closest to the building, while structural engineers and building inspectors took a closer look.
Sill said that the lane closures will remain in effect until the building is declared safe.
